Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has dragged Kinyara sugar Ltd to courts of law for failing to honour Omukama’s demands.
This was disclosed by the Kingdom Prime Minister, Norman Lukumu, who said the case against Kinyara Sugar Ltd was recorded three months ago in the industrial court Kampala.
Lukumu said that the Kingdom wrote to Kinyara sugar work demanding for 10% shares for operating on the Kingdom’s land but the Company has continued to ignore their demands.
Instead the factory told the Kingdom to pay $4m before the Company could honour their demand.
The Premier explained that they were compelled to seek legal redress after they had been frustrated by the Company officials.
When reached for a comment, Kinyara officials said they were not in charge of issues concerning shares and referred our reporter to Monica Namuli, the head of privatization department.
Namuli too strongly declined to comment about the matter.
