There was a fracas in Fort Portal town after a minister’s son was announced winner of the Western Uganda Youth Member of Parliament seat.
Mwine Mpaka, a son to State Minister for agriculture Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama polled 660 votes beating Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde’s son, Amanya Tumukunde who picked 463 votes.
Fortunate Nuwasasira also in the race got 10 votes.
The other candidate was Go Forward’s Macklyne Nahwera.
Mpaka, the National Resistance Movement [NRM] candidate was declared winner at 2:50am Tuesday morning, something that did not settle well with Tumukunde.
In the ensuing scuffle, Tumukunde was shot in the legs by soldiers attached to the military police.
One military escorts was also shot in the legs.
Tumukunde was treated for bullet wounds at a Fort Portal clinic.
Police, however, denied shooting the General claiming he was injured by a tear gas canister at a tally centre.
Military had deployed in Fort Portal over the weekend to secure the election.
