Broken limbs after Buhweju Woman MP car crashes

An accident that occurred on Wednesday evening left Buhweju Woman Member of Parliament, Olive Koyekyenga Katwesigye, and her aide, Jorom Mwesigwa, her personal assistant, with severe injuries.

The accident occurred at Nyakaziba in Bihanga sub County.

According to witnesses, the vehicle registration number UAU /870G hit a stone and overturned.

Katwesigye, her aide and other passengers who sustained broken limbs, were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

Dr. Celestine Barigye, the Director Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital told URN that the victims are responding well to treatment.

Ben Nuwamanya, the acting Buhweju District Police Commander blames the accident on a fault on the steering wheel, which he said made it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle.

Deo Atuhaire, a close family friend also told the radio that the MP has been relocated to unnamed hospital in Kampala for further examinations to ascertain the magnitude of the injuries.

He however, didn’t disclose the kind of injuries the MP sustained in the accident.

Koyekyenga (NRM member) was elected Buhweju Woman MP in a 2013 by-election after beating FDC’s Jane Bwiruka.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Ms Joy Arinaitwe Kariisa (NRM) on September 8.
