One person is reported dead after unknown men attacked the central police station in Kapchorwa.
The attackers disarmed the policemen on duty and took off with several guns.
In the aftermath of the election and the violence which has followed, the police has to be more careful on their jobs.
The attackers killed Hakim Kaddu posted at Kapchorwa Central Police Station and critically wounded other three police officers who were on duty.
According to Grace Patrick Odokonyero, the Kapchorwa district police commander, about 10 gunmen attacked the police station at about 12:20am – shooting the four policemen who were on duty, killing Sergeant Hakim Kaddu instantly and injuring three others critically.
The injured are Stephen Labeja, Rukundo Junior and Inspector of Police Jeremiah Musumba Kayemba.
Michael Odongo, the Sebei regional police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network, one of the gunmen was also killed in the gunfire exchange with police.
The injured police officers have been transferred to Mbale hospital.
According to Odokonyero, the gunmen are believed to have been on a mission to rescue suspects who were arrested on February 29 following an attack on UPDF soldier and a staff of Uganda Wildlife Authority, where one gun was stolen.
