Several NRM supporters are reported injured in a bloody fight that broke out in the ruling party’s primaries.
Anti-riot police was forced to fire teargas in order to disperse crowds.
The chaotic scenes were staged by supporters of Patrick Nkalubo who is vying for the seat and those of incumbent MP, Theodore Ssekikubo.
Property including cars are reported vandalised in the blood-spattered fights.
According to images shared by NBS TV, some car windows were smashed and a man is seen bleeding after his head was cut by a sharp object.
The injured have all been rushed to nearby clinics and hospitals.
On this morning, Henry Baguma, the Resident District Commissioner [RDC] Sembabule district appeared on NBS TV and distanced the district from chaotic tendencies during elections.
“As an RDC am not supposed to do party work, all am supposed to do is make sure the playing field is level,” he said.
He added: “We know of the threats of violence,but we shall ensure security for all.”
The confident Baguma said politicians at times exaggerate situations, adding that he “can assure you that there is no militia in Sembabule”.
