Bahati Aisha, a 20-year-old blind hairstylist, was last evening crowned the first ever Miss Tourism Independent, a new category that was introduced to cater for special needs or persons with disabilities.
At a ceremony held at Kampala Serena Hotel, Aisha left judges speechless with her hair styling and singing talents.
Her closest rival was Joan Namubiru, also talented in the art of dancing.
Aisha was given Shs200,000 contribution to her salon from Radiant group who sponsored the event.
Tourism Minister Maria Mutagamba said the idea of Miss Tourism Independent was meant to promote tourism as well as cater for the disadvantaged.
Teso girl crowned Miss Tourism
Meanwhile, Pauline Akurut, a student from Teso who displayed skills in fighting poaching beat 21 other contestants to take the crown.
Kisoro self-proclaimed King Ceasar Mulenga, gave her 10 cows, Uganda Tourism Board gave her a car, Airtel and Huawei gave her phones while air tickets came from Egypt Air, South African Airways and Fly Emirates.
Karamoja girl, Karen Nyangang, came 1st runners-up and Ankole’s Sheila Kirabo, 2nd runners-up.
