FDC flag bearer aspirant, Dr Kizza Besigye, told delegates at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole that the primary consideration of a candidate is whether that candidate can gather the masses to win the elections.
“That is the primary consideration. Ladies and gentlemen, be careful I am suggesting to you that the trust that the voters will have in the candidate is trust that is built which is in my candidature,” he appealed to delegates.
“For the first time in my life that I have seen that very poor Ugandans pick their money and give to me telling me to go and do their work.”
Here is more of what he said:
We are here to choose a candidate who will win the next election
Not only have the elections we have had been fraudulent but have also been deemed as such
The fact still remains (in spite of all challenges) that we’re going to need that vote at the election date.
In my adult life, I have seen very poor Ugandans in Kampala, in villages, pulling out Shs 1,000 for me to do the work
If at all indeed there was an election lost, it must have been a failure of our party.
We must fight for our reforms before the next elections, I am rallying citizens, parliament did it’s part.
Some people say my work is done. We’re still in Egypt, the Pharaohs of Egypt are still here, let us cross the Red sea.
At the end of this election, we must be one Uganda, one people.
