Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, the ICT & National Guidance minister has condemned opposition leader Kizza Besigye for training militias to defy government.
“Kizza Besigye is training militias, calling upon Ugandans to defy,” Tumwebaze said while appearing on NBS TV Monday.
He said by having an Leader of Opposition in Parliament, FDC accepted they are the opposition.
According to him, Kizza Besigye wants to remain relevant by confronting the police.
“Since 2000, Kizza Besigye has sought the presidency without getting a majority, a fact he must accept.”
He added: “Thank God for a president like Museveni who is not radical like Kizza Besigye.”
Red Top meeting
This came a day after Besigye met with youth of the Red Top Brigade at his home in Kasangati on Sunday.
Addressing the brigade, Besigye demanded that the Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura be prosecuted for brutality of the force.
This is in relation to the beatings by officers of bystanders who were cheering Besigye as he was released from prison earlier this month.
The red top told Besigye they were tired of being beaten and wanted to defend themselves.
“We had a good meeting. They completely prepared and determined to do whatever it takes so that people of this country regain their power,” Besigye later told NTV.
He accused police of perpetrating violence in the country and not opposition members.
He said the condemnation of those acts forced government to first charge low-ranking police officers for beating his supporters.
“Those who torture our people should be reprimanded or punished. Kayihura himself must appear before court and answer to his crimes. That is what will stop future managers of our services from abusing their offices,” Besigye added.
