Adong Santina and her colleagues working at Abim hospital in Abim district are currently on suspension for allowing FDC candidate, Kizza Besigye, into the rotten infirmary.
According to a letter by the chief administrative officer, Moses Kaziba, the nurses are accused of revealing unauthorized information concerning the sorry state of the hospital.
The hospital, according to records, has not had a doctor for a long time.
The CAO has since refused to comment on the matter when contacted by media.
“Besigye added support to the local hero of Abim hospital. He called her [Santina] yesterday to tell her that we in this together,” FDC said in a statement.
Speaking on the incident, Besigye said if it’s true nurses have been suspended, they will only be on leave for a few months.
“Once NRM goes, they will be back. When I am elected as your President, I will reinstate the nurses of Abim Hospital that showed me around at a hospital that had not had a doctor for more than a year have been put on disciplinary hearing.”
He added: “We shall instead press those that witch hunting them. These nurses are the real change makers and we stand with them.”
While appearing on NBS TV morning breeze Friday, Hon Muwanga Kivumbi (DP), said Ugandans go to hospitals sick and in search of treatment only to leave sicker.
Kivumbi then turned to Abim LC 5 chairman Norman Ochero who was present on the same show, and urged him to “save us the shame, go and call those civil servants to order.”
In defence, Ochero said he took president around Abim hospital.
“The state of Abim Hospital is not confidential information.”
He continued: “Even President Museveni visited it. He saw its state.”
He said even Shs 700m had been disbursed to rehabilitate the facility.
Ochero said he was surprised by the CAO’s actions.
“I have called CAO and expressed my dissatisfaction with his actions.”
