Caged opposition Kizza Besigye says he feels very bad for being detained in Moroto district yet he was arrested in Kampala.
“It is unfair. Why didn’t they charge me from Kampala where they arrested me? It’s abnormal,” Besigye told Daily Monitor in an interview.
Besigye said he was not informed about being transferred to Karamoja after being locked up at Nalufenya police station in Jinja District.
“I was removed from the cell and taken to a waiting helicopter. I didn’t know where I was going, only to realise that I was at Soroti Flying School where they kept me for 30 minutes as they were adding fuel to the helicopter. After re-fueling the helicopter, we [boarded]. Still, I didn’t know where they were taking me because it was becoming dark. I only found myself at Moroto police,” he narrated.
Besigye says he is now comfortable at Moroto government prison “except only that here in prisons, we are too congested because in a Ward 3 where I am, there are 174 prisoners”.
“I was very afraid of my life when I was in Moroto police because the cells where they had kept me had three doors which were always unlocked.”
Besigye says he has no problem eating food served by prisons, although there is massive poisoning of food in police and prisons.
He says the treason case against him is abnormal.
Police officers allegedly tried to make him sign a document with two charges; terrorism because they got 20 pangas (machetes) from FDC party headquarters and the second charge was treason because he had declared himself President of Uganda.
A video clip showing Besigye in purported swearing in as president was uploaded on Youtube and social media last Wednesday.
