Besigye released from jail, his home barricade

Uganda opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has been released from Naggalama police station in Mukono district following his arrest on Sunday.

Besigye was released last night without any charges or document.

“Just arrived home from Naggalama Police cells where I spent “Independence Day”! Not charged and released without any doc-held onto this APP!” Said Dr Besigye in a tweet.

Besigye was arrested at his home in Kasangati, Wakiso District as he tried to leave his house to attend parallel Independence fete organised by the opposition members at Katwe, a Kampala suburb.

“We shall always beat the regime machinery! We shall have our own activities to mark Uganda’s 54th Independence Day- even if it’s after 9th Oct!”Besigye had tweeted before his arrest.

Besigye says his home is still being barricaded by police.

Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was also arrested and detained at Kira road police station.

Lukwago was also released last night.
