Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye did not show up at Makindye Magistrates Court where Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura was expected to appear over police brutality.
Besigye had last week said he would appear in court to witness Kayihura’s trial.
However, the IGP snubbed court summons and did not show up.
Besigye also did not show up.
However, some section of social media indicated that Besigye did not appear in court because there was a plan to assassinate him.
The message circulating on social media read thus “A plot to assassinate the people’s president Dr. Besigye was thwarted at the last minute, after a tip from inside intelligence and the good doctor’s life was saved. The plot was orchestrated by Kale Kayihura and he sent to Makindye court people pretending to be ordinary citizens protesting his court appearance, but among them were over 13 people who were armed with concealed weapons, and they were to create a fracas during which Dr. Besigye was to be shot in the head, amid a volley of tear gas..AFTER GETTING THE INTELLINGENCE ON THIS PLOT,DR, BESIGYE DECIDED NOT TO COME TO MAKINDYE.THE INTELLIGENGE SUGGESTS KAYIHURA HAD NO OTHER REGIME OFFICIAL IN THIS PLOT.”
At court, the goons who were demonstrating over Kayihura trial wanted to lynch Kampala city mayor Erias Lukwago and other lawyers representing the complainants of police brutality.
