Kizza Besigye, the former Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party president has bounced back as the Rukungiri FDC mobilisation and publicity secretary.
Besigye sailed through an unopposed during the Rukungiri District FDC delegates conference leading to speculation that he could be eyeing the party presidency.
Since retiring from the FDC presidency in 2014, Besigye has been involved in various party activities as an adviser and political activist.
Wafula Ogutu, the FDC spokesperson says the election of Besigye as Rukungiri FDC mobilisation and publicity secretary automatically allows him to attend the FDC national delegates conference slated for June 11th.
According to the FDC party constitution, for one to be part of the national delegates conference he or she must hold a position at the district level or be a member of parliament, LC 3 chairperson or LC 5 chairperson among others.
When contacted about his election, Besigye said it was the will of the people.
According to Besigye, he went to attend the delegates conference in his Rukungiri home district but members decided to elect him because of his capabilities.
He however, said he doesn’t have intentions to taking over the party leaders adding that the party constitution is very clear.
Some FDC members have welcomed the return of Besigye.
Kassiano Wadri, the Terego County MP says the victory of Besigye is Rukungiri is good for the party.
According to Wadri, Besigye is a force to reckon with saying his presence can deliver various positions for the party at all levels.
Herman Mugisha, a member of Uganda Federal Alliance believes Besigye is targeting the party leadership.
Mugisha argues that since Besigye stepped down the party has become weak.
