Victoria Ssekitoleko, a member of Women Situation Room Uganda says both President Yoweri Museveni and opposition leader, Kizza Besigye, are ready for talks.
Women’s Situation Room is Africa’s unique approach to reducing electoral conflicts.
“For us the women we are there for Kizza Besigye and President Museveni because we are for peace,” Victoria said while appearing on NBS TV Wednesday.
“We met President Museveni and Kizza Besigye yesterday. They are both ready to talk.”
Victoria said the hostility is already happening in Bundibugyo and Tororo and even nothing is done, the situation could worsen.
She said religious leaders were also meeting over the matter.
“They haven’t been silent. A lot of behind-the-scenes works ongoing.”
She observed that any dialogue talks will be mediated by people with mediation expertise.
“I wonder what parents and guardians near Besigye’s besieged home are telling their children.”
She said the WSR wants to see the army and police returned to barracks and leave the streets as well as Besigye’s home.
“We need to examine how the cultures of the two (President Museveni and Kizza Besigye) handle conflict, defeat and victory.”
She said Uganda is at a crossroads but “not all of us are confused”.
