FDC presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, says the country’s president, Yoweri Museveni, has been surviving on lies all these years.
“Museveni has been surviving on lies,” Besigye told a rally in Oyam town on Monday.
“After all these years,” Besigye continued, “he [Museveni] is still promising compensation.”
While traversing Oyam and Apac districts, Besigye also visited the home of Mzee Noah Atyang (RIP) who was the first District Commissioner.
“You are going to win, because when I saw you in 1987, I knew you were to lead us, one day,” Emily Etyang, the widow to Mzee Noah Atyang, told the retired colonel.
Besigye later told a rally that “intimidation and voter bribery” are the only things that have cost him election victories before.
Besigye maintained that both in 2001, 2006 and 2011 elections, he was rigged out.
He said victory would be easy if no one stole votes and that he is going to defeat Museveni this time round.
Besigye encouraged Oyam voters to “eat” the money NRM is giving to villages to bribe voters.
“When they bring it [money] eat it, clean your mouth and ask for more but remember to vote wisely.”
Besigye promised an Agricultural Bank to deal with the endemic lack of financing in the agricultural sector.
FDC, in a statement, said in this election, “NRM is so fearful of the big shift of women towards the Besigye camp and it’s so easy to see here in Oyam district”.
“Women of all ages are supporting KB knowing he is the only one who can deal with the high maternal and child mortality rates as well as biting poverty through increase of GDP from 3 to 10% with 2% of that committed to agricultural innovation.”
