Rukungiri town on currently “on fire” as FDC presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, launches his inaugural rally.
Business came to a standstill in Mbarara earlier today as people took to the streets to have a view of Dr. Kizza-Besigye.
“People are screaming. I can see women crying,” an enthusiastic FDC supporter said.
Earlier people waited on the road in Mpigi, Masaka, Rwengo and Lyantonde and Rushere towns to wave at Besigye’s convoy as he headed to Rukungiri town.
We are told he has arrived in Rukungiri town to address his rally.
Ambassador Waswa Birigwa will lead Besigye’s national task force looking for votes in next year’s presidential elections.
Joyce Sebugwawo will lead FDC’s campaign team in Buganda while Ssemujju Nganda will head Communication and Publicity.
In Rukungiri town, FDC supporters started moving to the rally venue as early as 6.30 am.
Boda Boda cyclists and crowds wearing FDC T-shirts took to the streets shouting and chanting FDC slogans.
Banana plants have been planted along various streets.
Besigye is expected to address his first rally today at Rukungiri stadium at about 2 pm.
He will address two more rallies in Nyakishenyi in Rubabo Constituency and Bugangari in Rujumbura constituency.
He is accompanied by FDC president Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago and FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Semujju, among others.
