Opposition politicians who were arrested earlier today have been charged with disobeying lawful order and released on police bond.
Former FDC President, Kizza Besigye, and Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, were arrested on orders of Kampala South RPC, Siraje Bakaleke, alongside with other opposition activists who had gathered at Nsambya Sharing Hall for a consultative meeting on electoral reforms.
Besigye and Lukwago were detained at Jinja Road Central Police Station while the others were held at Katwe and Nsambya Police Stations respectively.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, told URN that the group was charged with disobeying lawful police orders as their meeting was illegal.
Activists on the other hand say they wrote to the IGP Kale Kayihura and that police was informed of their meeting.
After his release, Besigye said they were not deterred and would not succumb to police intimidation.
He said they will push for reforms and ensure that 2016 general elections are free and fair.
