Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) former President, Kizza Besigye’s lawyer, Wilfred Mulumba, is currently hospitalized amid fears that he was poisoned.
Last week, Mulumba, after attending court in Kabale, started complaining of stomach pains.
On Tuesday, he travelled to Kampala still suffering from stomachache.
On Wednesday, he was admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Several tests were made and samples assembled to be flown to United States of America.
Friends across the political divide who visited Mulumba say his condition had worsened.
On Friday, consultations were made with Mulago medics who agreed to transfer the lawyer to a private hospital.
On Saturday, Lawyer Mulumba was taken to Kampala hospital in a critical condition.
His stomach had swollen but medics managed to remove the fluid that was causing the swelling.
By Sunday, his condition had started stabilizing.
Friends from both government and opposition are currently weighing the option of flying out Mulumba to another country for better treatment.
They have already planned a fundraising meeting scheduled to take place at Fairway hotel in Kampala.
Mulumba is the counsel representing Besigye, Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, leader for FDC women league Ingrid Turinawe, Kawempe Division Mayor Mubarak Munyagwa and the Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume Kaginda in a case where they accused of inciting violence on July 14, 2012 while speaking at a rally in Kabale Municipal Stadium.
Late last year, Mulumba asked Kabale Chief Magistrates court to dismiss the case and set the accused people free on claims that the charge sheet is defective.
We have also seen posters indicating that Mulumba intends to stand for Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament.
