Rt. Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former President for the Forum for Democratic Change -FDC Party wants the Governor Bank of Uganda, Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, arrested, prosecuted and jailed for alleged abuse of office.
Besigye accuses Mutebile of always helping the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM party with large sums of money from the public treasury to fund NRM elections activities.
He cited the 2011 general elections in which he claims Mutebile gave NRM party about two trillion shillings from the treasury to fund its election activities.
Besigye said before Mutebile retires next year as central bank guvnor, he should be held accountable for such abuse of office.
Mutebile was placed on the spotlight in 2011 when the country’s inflation rate hit a record 30.5 percent.
It was considered the highest inflation since January 1993 when it reached 34.2 percent.
Many accused Mutebile of having allowed the ruling party to deep its hands into state coffers but he however insisted they claims were unfounded.
Meawhile, Besigye says Museveni is now a weaker opponent.
Besigye, who is in Mbale to drum up support for his election as FDC flag told a news conference this morning that “Museveni is much weaker politically compared to the previous years when he contested against him”.
He cited the recent fallout between Museveni and his key allies such ex-premier Amama Mbabazi, the former coordinator of Intelligence services David Tinyefunza alias Sejjusa and former Vice President Professor Gilbert Bukenya.
Besigye noted that the 2016 Presidential Election will deliver a crushing blow to the ruling National Resistance Movement party government.
