Opposition leader Kizza Besigye has finally sent out his message to the Muslim Community upon completion of the month of Ramadhan.
Besigye, in the message, calls upon Ugandans to ‘reflect and celebrate the values that make us one Uganda, one people’.
“I congratulate our Muslim brothers & sisters on successfully completing the Holy Month of Ramadhan.”
Uganda Muslims are known for more than their generosity, they make an invaluable contribution to our country, from education, hospitality, healthcare, business, sports to political leadership, Besigye said.
“As we all come together with Muslims, to pray and feast, we should reflect and celebrate the values that make us one Uganda, one people.”
He added: “May Allah bring you joy, peace and shared prosperity on this blessed occasion of Eid.”
Besigye who faces treason charges and remains on remand at Luzira prison told court last week that prison authorities were blocking his attempts to send out an Eid message.
In response, the prisons spokesperson, Frank Baine, said sending out such messages, especially those aimed for publication in the media, contravenes the Prisons Act.
