Besigye charged with ‘unlawful procession’

Police has charged Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] presidential candidate with unlawful procession.

He was arrested yesterday at Mulago hospital round about on his way to the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi where the party was holding prayers.

Police says Besigye divided from the route provided by police.

He wanted to access Kampala central business district through Wandegeya while police wanted him to drive through Yusufu Lule road and connect to Jinja road, Mukwano road and then Najjanankumbi.

When police tried to arrest him, Besigye locked himself inside the car which was in turn towed to Kiira Road police station.

He was later transferred to Nagalama Central Police station in Mukono district.

He was charged and later released.

“Just released from Naggalama Police Station. I was charged with Unlawful Procession! I left home with one vehicle and never disembarked,” Besigye wrote on his Facebook page.
