Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] secretary for mobilisation has described as “the most brutal”, the grabbing of Kizza Besigye from the plane at Entebbe airport by military personnel.
“Dr Besigye has been grabbed… he has been grabbed by goons, thugs, terrorists…people who were in uniform and those who were not,” Ingrid told press outside the airport.
She added: “Really, we didn’t get a chance of seeing him.”
Besigye who was returning home from UK and US tours, landed at Entebbe airport early Monday morning.
FDC officials and journalists were blocked from accessing the VIP lounge of the airport where they had gone to receive the former presidential candidate.
“Passengers told us he was dragged out of the plane,” Ingrid said.
She said Besigye fought back and begged the military to allow him pick his property but they refused.
They instead dragged him into the police cars and drove away.
FDC party officials later confirmed that Besigye had been dropped at his home in Kasangati Wakiso district.
Speaking on the matter, Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, said it had been extremely difficult to establish where they had taken Besigye.
“We are in the independence week. We have planned rallies. Oct 7: Wakiso, Oct 8: Kawempe and on Oct 9, Katwe playground.”
He said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials were not in charge of the entire airport.
“What they are doing is a violation. Flagrant abuse of the law. Fellow passengers say Dr Besigye was whisked away.”
