Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, over the weekend launched scathing attacks on FDC politician, Kizza Besigye, and former NRM Secretary General, Amama Mbabazi, who want to stand against President Yoweri Museveni in 2016.

Addressing NRM leaders in Mbarara, Otafiire said Besigye had nothing to add to Uganda’s politics.

“Besigye, what will he add that Museveni has not yet done?” Otafiire queried.

He paused and savoured the applause from the crowd before adding, “Apart from causing chaos. Besigye knows how to cause chaos, everywhere he goes, he leaves a trail of chaos.”

Otafiire says he knows Besigye well ever since bush war days and all he knows is that the retired colonel is chaotic.

“If I, who knows him better, cannot support him, how come you who only see him on television screens will?”

He said the NRM government has managed to bring peace and prosperity hence there was no need to abandon it for the likes of Besigye.

“And if we can’t handle this precious peace carefully, it will go away. Museveni’s over stay on power has no problem because he has not caused harm to us,” he pointed out.

Attacks on Mbabazi

Otafiire then descended on former Prime Minister, Mbabazi who he labelled unfit to lead a country.

“I have no problem with Mbabazi,” he started, putting on a cynical smile.

“Let him stand freely because in NRM he was our stumbling block. Let him try the independent ticket.”

Otafiire, however, said Mbabazi is presenting himself as a clean man which he is not.

“We know his deeds and they are not good either.”

On Museveni

As one of the historicals and the seven members of the Army High Command that reportedly persuaded Museveni to seek re-election, Otafiire says NRM will choose Museveni’s successor when he gets old.

“Yes, President Museveni will go when time comes or when he gets old but we as NRM will sit and choose his successor.”

He said Mbabazi was trying to take on the chair of his father when he is still standing.
