Jaberi Bidandi Ssali is set to retire as chairman of the People’s Progressive Party-PPP.
Saddam Gayira, the People’s Progressive Party spokesperson disclosed this to URN in an exclusive interview.
According to Gayira, the party constitution requires party leaders at various levels to serve for only two terms.
He explains that all party positions were rendered vacant after their national council meeting held over the weekend.
Gayira says as a way of rewarding Jaberi Bidandi Ssali for his commendable job to the party, the council agreed to amend the party’s constitution so as to create a position of President General.
Early this year, the PPP national executive pushed Bidandi aside on grounds of ill health.
Bidandi Ssali joined People’s Progressive Party in 2005 and was elected the interim Chairman of the Party until 2008 when the Party held its first Delegates’ Conference where he was elected the substantive leader.
In 2011, Bidandi-Ssali crowned his political career by offering himself as presidential candidate on the People’s Progressive Party ticket.
People’s Progressive Party is expected to hold its Delegates conference on 10th July for the election of new leaders.
Gayira says during the meeting the party will also consider the possibility of backing a single opposition candidate.
Bidandi is the father of Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool.
