The Balunywa Foundation hosted Miss Uganda in an event at the Balunywa compound in Iganga on Saturday April 18th 2015.
Miss Uganda’s handlers, the Miss Uganda Foundation allowed Leah Kalanguka to visit Balunywa Foundation and address young girls on challenges of teenage pregnancies.
The Balunywa Foundation, founded by Makerere University Business School (Mubs) Principal, Prof Waswa Balunywa, has various programmes focusing on women and it usually trains women in various aspect of life.
Addressing young girls from different schools and areas, Ms Leah requested the girls to work hard in their studies and aspire to be like her.
A recent graduate in computer engineering, Leah told the girls that good things come at the right time for those who wait for them.
She advised girls not to be diverted from their studies with money and other captive things.
She said these would come if they worked hard and succeeded in their studies.
She castigated old men who lure young school girls from school, giving them gifts and promising them heaven, when in actual fact after using them, they would dump them.
Leah’s presence in the Balunywa compound, where she addressed hundreds of school girls, drew interest from various members of the community.
To seal her visit, she planted a tree outside the maternity ward.
She noted a gesture of tree planting as being a practice that everybody should aim at as part of the process of saving the environment.
She urged young people to also plant trees.
She thanked the Foundation for this effort of addressing women’s needs especially in the countryside.
Leah was accompanied by Ms. Janat Nalugya, the Miss Uganda foundation manager and there other beauty queens: Miss Uganda Beach Beauty Sheena Kyozira, and Miss Uganda central, Caroline Natambi.
Fiina Mugerwa of the Masanyalaze fame spiced up the event as she does in her usual way and stung the audience with her dance strokes.
