Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, the state minister for housing, has also acknowledged that the Ugandan economy is very sick.
“The Ugandan economy is in hospital but not on oxygen,” Baryomunsi pointed out while appearing on NBS TV on Monday.
“We are having challenges like the case everywhere,” the minister noted, explaining that this though had nothing to do with opposition leader Kizza Besigye’s defiance campaign.
“I don’t think defiance campaigns have had any negative impact on the economy.”
He said defiance campaign activities have been widely contained by security forces.
On a macro level, defiance can capably scare away investors but it has not had any impact on the micro level, he explained.
Baryomunsi believes the figures are not being manipulated saying there is no way International Monetary Fund, World Bank and the Uganda Bureau of Statistics could connive to manipulate “our figures”.
Meanwhile, Baryomunsi says he knows nothing about the Crane Bank rescue package save for what he has read in newspapers.
