State Minister of Health for General Duties, Chris Baryomunsi, was last night caught with pre-ticked ruling party NRM ballot papers.
Baryomunsi is the elected Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi County East and a member of Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
He is trying to defend the same seat which is also eyed by a one Flugence Muhereza who has been a councillor for Rugyeyo Sub County in Kanungu district.
Baryomunsi has so far been successfully in defending his seat since 2006.
However, amid fears that Muhereza could this time round give him a bloody nose, the minister opted for alternatives.
A leak from his camp has it that the minister yesterday tried to ferry thousands of pre-ticked NRM ballot papers into Kanungu.
Unfortunately for him, the vehicle carrying the ballots [moving at a terrible velocity] crashed at Katojjo in Kambuga Sub county Kanungu district.
“The car [carrying ballots] crashed at Katojjo last night,” an insider told us.
“It was carrying ballot papers for Baryomunsi.”
The source did not provide more details of what transpired after Baryomunsi’s ticked ballots were exposed in the accident.
We have been unable to reach Baryomunsi for a comment on the matter as he did not pick our repetitive phone calls.
Yesterday evening, NRM electoral commission deputy chairman, Arimpa Kigyagi, announced the postponement of primaries to Tuesday without giving reasons.
Today, his senior, Tanga Odoi, said they had issues with material delays and security lapses.
