Presidential candidate, Venansius Baryamureeba, is currently campaigning on social media after suspending rallies over security concerns.
Barya says he raised a security concern to the electoral commission which was not heeded.
“A few days ago, I raised a concern about the insufficient security provided by the Electoral Commission to the Presidential Candidates.”
He adds: “Today, the media is already awash with stories of alleged kidnap of one of my fellow Presidential Candidates.”
The candidate in question is Elton Mabirizi who was yesterday night allegedly kidnapped and beaten by unknown people in Iganga town.
Barya says his concerns was for the benefit of others as well.
“I watched the EC flag off a candidate on a boda boda with a pickup of policemen and I thought that was not well thought out.”
According to Barya, Uganda’s political scene has been characterized by torture of opponents, unresolved murders and other inhumane acts towards political characters.
“It is very insecure especially once one dives into the sea of politics in Uganda,” he said.
As such, he has proceeded with social media [Facebook and Twitter] campaigns.
He has a Wednesday social media interaction that runs under the hashtag #AskBarya.
“In fact, even when I have not been doing campaign rallies over the last three days as I engaged relevant authorities on the above issues of concern, my team of agents and I were involved in door to door visits, social media promotions and radio promotions among other strategic activities,” he explained.
Barya says he will resume campaign rallies next week and will continue to enjoy interacting with Ugandans on this journey.
“As I continue with campaigns, I would like to assure all my supporters that I am in this Presidential race to the end and I am certain that together, we can make it.”
He says at the moment, his campaign programmes are actively going on across the country.
