Former Makerere vice chancellor, Prof Venansius Baryamureeba, says he is confident to win 2016 elections.
Appearing on NBS Barometer programme this week, Barya said President Yoweri Museveni was too old and too tired to keep on.
Baryamureeba claimed that is why the President Museveni makes reckless statements.
He also reiterated that the youngest Presidential Candidate is Joseph Elton Mabirizi.
“I am now 47 years old and no longer young.”
Barya said at that age he is capable of leading the country despite demeaning remarks by the president describing the former as a mere boy.
“I know I will win, I have done my research,” Barya insisted.
The professor announced that he had 2 million supporters on the day he registered as a presidential candidate.
“I started campaigns last year with 2 million people when I was just announcing my presidential bid.”
He said these were not just the students from Makerere University but other voters countrywide.
“I have done my research. About 65 percent of Ugandans are under 40 years of age. They can tell lies and don’t vote in the end.”
Barya said he was left with 8 districts to conclude his campaign trail.
He further rubbished recent polls giving President Museveni a 71% lead, claiming it was done from “biased data”.
“Opinion polls are based on biased data and can’t give the real picture.”
He said, for example, the New Vision poll said 71 percent would vote Museveni while Research World International said only 51 percent would vote the incumbent.
