UPDF will unconditionally hand over all items recovered from South Sudan gunmen in Lamwo district , URN has learnt.

The items were recovered on Tuesday this week during an operation by UPDF troops to evict the gunmen who had settled in Ngom Oromo Village in Lokung Sub County in Lamwo district claiming it is part of the South Sudan territory.

UPDF forcefully evicted the gunmen after sending them a peace message to vacate the area voluntarily in vain.

During the eviction operation, UPDF recovered a South Sudan national flag, Magwi County Flag, 4 Motorcycles, tents and empty oil drums among others.

Ammunition was also captured from the invaders.

Mathew Akiya Ochen, the Lamwo LC V Chairperson says the District Security Committee has resolved to hand over the items unconditionally.

It is said the 200 armed South Sudanese destroyed several acres of crops and displaced 400 Ugandans.

UPDF managaed to push them out of Ugandan territory after two armed encounters.

Army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, says government will engage the leadership of South Sudan to amicably resolve the border disputes.
