Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF] has started rehearsals ahead of their main parade on Thursday.
Arm spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda said soldiers are currently busy at Kololo Independence Grounds where the swearing in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni will take place.
“UPDF Rehearse at Kololo in Preparation for Swearing in parade due on Thursday,” Ankunda said in a social media message.
He said air force jets that have been flying over Kampala are part of the swearing in parade.
Thursday May 12 has already been declared a public holiday to enable the citizens of Uganda attend the swearing-in and inauguration ceremonies of the president-elect.
President Yoweri Museveni won the recent February 2016 General Elections and will be sworn-in for the sixth time to lead the country for the next five years.
The Chief Justice has the ceremonial duty of administering the oath of office of the President of the Republic of Uganda.
The Oath of Allegiance:
“I swear in the name of the Almighty God (or solemnly affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Uganda and that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. [So help me God.]”
The Presidential Oath:
“I swear in the name of the Almighty God (or solemnly affirm) that I shall faithfully exercise the functions of the President of Uganda and shall uphold, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and observe the laws of Uganda and that I shall promote the welfare of the people of Uganda. [So help me God.]”
