Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF] will continue to investigate the Entebbe airforce garrison commander for his role in a plot to overthrow Museveni.
The Uganda People’s Defence Air Force [UPDAF] garrison commander, Col. Dan Opito Odwee, was yesterday released on Military-Police Bond.
Speaking on the matter, army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda said the army would continue to dig deeper into Opito’s plot until they uncover more evidence.
“Col Dan Opito released on police bond. Col Dan Opito investigations continue,” Ankunda said on Wednesday.
The former rebel commander from Lango sub region was arrested on June 11, accused of having links with a reported rebel group and detained at Makindye military barracks.
About 30 officers linked to the group were also arrested in June.
His son Edward Abili posted on social media that his father was released on Tuesday evening and no charges were brought against him.
Meanwhile, media reports indicate that Opito and his wife’s passports were withdrawn by the army lest he violates his bond conditions.
