Interesting events are unfolding in the opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC].
We have learnt that Kitgum Woman MP, Beatrice Anywar, on Monday tracked down Kizza Besigye’s campaign team that is traversing Palabek Kal, Lurkung, Paloga, Agoro, Padibe and Maďiopei areas of Lamwo district canvassing for votes.
Anywar who recently joined Amama Mbabazi’s Go Forward and refused to endorse or escort Besigye for nomination, finally caught up with his team and pleaded to return to the FDC camp.
Last week, FDC dropped Anywar aka Maama Mabira as their flag bearer in 2016 election for supporting Mbabazi and being hostile to Besigye.
In a meeting chaired party president Mugisha Muntu, FDC Secretary General, Nandala Mafabi, announced Denis Onekalit Amere, a former Makerere University Guild President, as the new official FDC flag bearer for Kitgum Municipality MP seat.
The FDC party electoral commission chairman, Dan Mugarura, says Anywar was dropped because of her “hostility to the party and its presidential candidate”.
Anywar, the FDC shadow minister of energy, oil and mineral resources, chose to escort Mbabazi to Namboole for his presidential nomination and even backed him as the suitable joint opposition presidential flag bearer under The Democratic Alliance (TDA) arrangement.
She labelled Besigye selfish for not letting others lead and a failure for running against President Yoweri Museveni thrice and losing all times [2001, 2006 and 2011].
Begs to return to Besigye camp
After being dropped as flag bearer, Anywar, threatened to drag the party to court for failing to conduct party primaries for the same seat and plotting against her.
Today, she stormed Besigye’s meeting with voters of Lamwo and pleaded vigorously with Muntu to allow her return home,
A source who is a member of Besigye’s campaign team tells us Anywar begged Muntu to atleast allow her be part of Besigye’s Kitgum rally scheduled for Wednesday this week.
She managed to hand him a petition accusing Kitgum leaders of sidelining her in FDC activities.
MP Harold Kaija who is part of Besigye’s team said Anywar had joined “the Dr. Kizza-Besigye Team in Kitgum”.
Some dissatisfied FDC members are not happy with Anywar’s return saying after humiliating their candidate, now she wants to “force her return through back channels”.
Yet, the source, continued, Anywar is reportedly busy mobilising FDC delegates from Kitgum municipality to back her claim that they voted her in primaries.
At the start of November, Anywar FDC district Secretary General, Phillip Okin Ojara, stormed a meeting convened at Olympia Guesthouse by the party’s Electoral Commission to plan for primary elections.
They accused party executives led by Alfred Amoi, FDC Chairperson in Kitgum and two officials of the party EC from Kampala led by Hussein Lubega, of planning to rig the party primaries.
According to URN, Anywar entered the meeting and grabbed already filled FDC nomination forms from the two FDC EC officials as they officiated consensus building between aspirants.
She tore some to pieces and scattered others on the floor saying the primaries process did not follow the party constitution.
When she nominated Mbabazi, FDC moved fast to replace her saying the party could nolonger trust her.
We have also learnt that on Wednesday, the day Besigye will be campaigning in Kitgum, Anywar’s replacement Amere will be officially nominated and introduced to party supporters.
