Police in Kiryandongo district in Western Uganda is investigating circumstances under which a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) shot his sister in-law dead before turning the gun at himself.
Maureen Nyangoma, a resident of Kigumba Town Council, Kiryandongo District was reportedly shot dead by Cpl Fred Kugonza attached to Bombo Headquarters, Band Section on Saturday.
The UPDF officer is said to have accused his sister in-law also wife to an MTN employee (Field officer) of being behind his failed marriage with her sister.
Kugonza’s wife reportedly left him a few months ago.
This is the second incident in less than a week in which a UPDF officer is reported killing civillians.
On Thursday, Sgt Obua Isaac attached to Makindye Barracks in Kampala went on rampage with his gun killing seven people before he was also put out of action.
Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said Sgt Obua had returned from Somalia where he had been deployed as part of the Amisom force.
Apparently, he would send money to his wife back in Uganda to buy a plot of land and construct a house on it, instead, the wife would spend it on her new boyfriend around Makindye town.
Upon his return, he found nothing like a house or plot of land.
He was told that some of the soldiers’ wives (the ones he shot dead) had been connecting his wife to other men and that is when he went nuts.
