This morning at about 0300am at Bulimbaale on Masaka Mbarara highway, a Jaguar bus reg number UAU 985s collided head on with a Canter truck reg.number UAT 814w.
Two people died on spot.
ACP Namaye Polly, the deputy Press and Public Relations identified the dead as Nathan Kabigumira, male adult and a resident of Biharwe, Kabale in Isingiro district.
Another one is Kyokunzire Evangilist, female adult and resident of Rwabagaga, iIsingiro district.
The deceased’s bodies have been take to Lyantonde hospital mortuary for post-mortem. They were both passengers in the Canter truck.
The driver of the canter truck has been identified as Kisseka John Bosco and has been rushed to Lyantonde hospital for treatment.
However, traffic police officers who visited the scene noted that the driver of the jaguar bus had fled after the accident and the officers are working together with Jaguar bus company to identify and arrest him.
The Canter truck was travelling from Mbabara to Kampala while the Jaguar bus was from Kampala to Rwanda.
Traffic Police is investigating the cause of the accident.
However, it is suspected to be careless driving on the part of the driver of the Jaguar bus who was keeping right instead of left, therefore resulting into the head on crash with the Canter truck.
“The Police cautions all drivers to be respectful and abide by the traffic guidelines while on the road, to avoid careless driving that can lead to such accidents,” she said.
