Ugandans have expressed their disappointment at Members of Parliament after it emerged that the legislative arm of government was planning Shs50m funeral.
“We just keep making MPs’ lives better. Even in death, they want us to give. We just keep giving. They keep taking,” tweeted a one Grace Natabalo.
The parliamentary commission has budgeted for Shs50m to cater for each MP’s funeral in the event of death.
In September 5, parliament put a notice in the media for service providers to submit bids to provide funeral management services for a period of two years.
Parliament’s acting director of communications and public affairs, Moses Bwalatum said parliament has faced challenges organising MPs burial since there is no specific budget for it.
The plan has attracted backlash from Ugandans in social media.
” Next we will be paying for their heaven (or hell) admission fee,” tweeted a one Godfrey Byaruhanga.
There are 452 legislators in the House.
