One of the high-profile political figures in Buganda, Betty Nambooze Bakireke, who recently showed support for Amama Mbabazi, has been seen at FDC candidate, Kizza Besigye’s rally.
Nambooze who belongs to the Democratic party alongside Medard Sseggona, Mathias Mpuuga and Mathias Nsubuga Birekeraawo, are known to belong to JPAM camp.
Not long ago, the Mukono Municipality MP attacked Besigye when he talked about restructuring government.
“Restructuring government is the best option to save money that is spent on public administration and channel it into service delivery….but can a new regime introduce this policy immediately on assuming office,” Nambooze quried responding to Besigye’s promise to cut down cabinet and stop wastage of resources.
“For example can you dismiss newly elected MPs, RDCs, merge districts in the first term of a new Government. Well Uganda will take years of good governance to get out of the ditch we now find ourselves in,” Nambooze hit out at the FDC strongman.
Yet on hearing that Besigye would be campaigning in Mukono town on Thursday, Nambooze was hyperactive in her push to be part of the rally.
There are reports that she even wrote to Besigye “begging” to be part of his rally having failed to attend Amama’s rally in her home town.
When she showed up at Ssaza grounds in Mukono town today, Nambooze was welcomed with hisses from the audience that sought to block her.
“Betty Nambooze fought really hard to make it to Besigye’s podium in Mukono,” reports Daily Monitor’s Eriasa Mukiibi Sseru.
According to Mukiibi, Nambooze employed serious muscle power to get a seat on Besigye’s table.
She was flanked by Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.
When she managed to take to the podium despite the negative hisses, Nambooze asked Mukono residents to vote Besigye in 2016 elections.
“I have come here as a friend of Dr Besigye. I ask you to vote for my friend,” she said.
