Delegates to the Uganda Peoples’ Congress National Council on Friday directed the party to fire Peter Walubiri as the Chairperson of the Milton Obote Foundation accusing him of working against the interests of the party.
The delegates reached the decision Friday afternoon at Jokas Hotel Bweyogerere in Wakiso district were they have gathered to among others legitimise the new appointments of members of the cabinet and party participation in the 2016 general elections.
The firing of Walubiri and other members of the Board of Trustees follows numerous allegations of embezzlement and lack of accountability for over 1.8 billion shillings that the foundation has been collecting for the last ten years.
Warubiri is also accused of trying to mortgage Uganda House to Crane Bank three years back only to be thwarted by party president, Jimmy Akena.
Party spokesperson, Michael Osinde, says Warubiri sunbed their invitation clarifying that it was the same reason outgoing party president, Olara Otunnu, feared calling a National Council.
Osinde says the cabinet will soon appoint other members to lead the board of trustees.
Akena had earlier on rubbished allegations that the Obote family wants to take the Uganda House and Milton Obote Foundation as family property.
He clarified that Uganda house and Milton Obote Foundation is party property and belongs to every UPC member but not the family of Obote.
Akena said that he is taking the responsibilities as Party president to take care of the property but not as it is said that he wants to take them as family property.
