The Annual Digital Impact Awards Africa (#DIAA2016) on Friday 3rd June released full list of the Nominees in all categories for its third edition.
The nominations’ release is in addition to the five recipients of Medals of Honour that were earlier announced.
The Awards and Medals of Honour will be presented at Kampala Serena Hotel on 17th August 2016.
DIAA2016 conducted research in which 228 companies operating in Africa were assessed for their digital embrace and innovation, 10 companies emerged as the finalists with a Digital Index score between 2.61 and 3.82 out of 5 and thus are the leading contenders for “Digital Brand of the Year”.
Top on the list of nominees is Airtel Uganda which was launched in Uganda in June 2010.
It is now Uganda’s most innovative mobile phone operator, which has introduced many “firsts” in the telecommunications sector.
As a mobile operator Airtel introduced affordable communication products and services that have transformed millions of Ugandans and businesses.
CELTEL Uganda was the first Telecommunication Company in Uganda that was introduced in 1995 and transformed telephony by connecting people with the use of a mobile phone.
In July 2007, CELTEL Uganda changed its brand name to ZAIN Uganda that was eventually changed to airtel Uganda in 2010 thus joining a family of over 260 million subscribers in Africa, India and Indonesia.
Airtel Uganda is indeed a great success story having acquired Warid Telecom in May 2013 and growing to a family of 7.2 Million Customers and investing heavily in network expansion and Innovative IT Systems all in a bid to ensure clear network coverage and excellent customer experience.
Other nominees for the awards are; Econet, First National Bank, GTBank, Huawei, MTN, Safaricom, DStv, United Bank for Africa and Vodacom.
