The Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has in a new reshuffle appointed AIGP Haruna Isabirye as the new commander for the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU).
The information is contained in a directive to all units on the subject of new appointments and transfers.
Isabirye who has been the Director of Operations is appointed COMMANDER ASTU, which has been separated from Field Force Unit FFU to ensure effective command and control of administration.
Kayihura has also expanded the operational scope of ASTU to cover the entire cattle corridor in Uganda.
AIGP Isabirye is the first AIGP to head ASTU which has recently been made independent from Field Force Unit.
The IGP promised to give details on this unit.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
He is expected to present 2016/17 work plans to the IGP without delay within two weeks from the date of the message.
“[If he] does not do so will have to show cause which disciplinary action should not been taken against him.”
The deputy IGP will preside over the handover and takeover.
The reshuffles come at a time reports say Kayihura disbanded the leadership Jinja Road Police Station over fears of terror attacks.
They reportedly include; the District Police Commander, Moses Elyegu; O/C Station Shifa Kiribwa and O/C CIID Herbert Akankwasa.
