The Namatala bridge along Mbale-Tirinyi-Iganga road has caved in.
“We are working on an alternative route,” Uganda National Roads Authority [UNRA] announced in a tweet.
The collapse prompted a temporary diversion of traffic onto the Kamonkoli – Kabwangasi – Nakaloke road.
This comes only days after the Aswa Bridge that connects several districts in northern Uganda plus South Sudan collapsed.
UNRA said the Bridge was damaged by a Tororo Cement overloaded truck on Tuesday night.
The bridge located on Lira-Kitgum Road, connects Abim, Agago, Pader, Kitgum and Lamwo districts.
The construction of a sh4.5b bridge commenced in June 2010 by Spencon services.
It was commissioned in 2011.
