Over 900 youth formerly allied to Go Forward Presidential Candidate, Amama Mbabazi, have defected to President Museveni camp.
The youth from several sub counties in Sembabule district announced their defection at a press briefing at Rainbow Motel in Sembabule Town council.
Badru Magembe, the group leader says they have been campaigning for Mbabazi without any support or protection from the candidate.
Magembe accuses Mbabazi of ignoring their pleas whenever they called upon him for help.
“We have been arrested, intimidated and harassed for supporting Amama Mbabazi. When we call his head offices, sometimes the phones are all switched off or no one receives our calls,” Magembe is quoted telling journalists.
He said Mbabazi doesn’t care about them but “cares about himself and his family”.
He says that a big number of youths that were arrested for supporting Go Forward in Sembabule are rotting in prisons without any help.
Go Forward coordinator in Sembabule, Vincent Kimbugwe, is quoted by KFM radio saying the youth’s defection to NRM is not surprising.
Mbabazi is meanwhile holding rallies in Sembabule district.
Only days back, Sauti Ya Vijana, a youth group allied to Mbabazi defected to Museveni accusing the former Prime Minister of being self-centred.
