South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) says nine passengers were killed over the weekend and many injured after suspected militias opened fire on a passenger vehicle.
The incident occurred few kilometres outside Juba while the vehicle was travelling to Kajo-Keji.
SSNPS says seven people died on spot and two died of their injuries at the hospital.
There has been increased incidents of targeted killings of ethnic Dinkas on the roads in the southern border regions.
Last week an ethnic Dinka student at Kajo-Keji Medical Institute was killed because of his tribe by tribalist bandits.
The medical institute has since closed indefinitely citing increased insecurity.
3 policemen murdered on Juba-Nimule road
Meanwhile three policemen have been murdered along Juba-Nimule Road.
The spokesman of the SSNPS said that a group of attackers assaulted the police post at Nyelo yesterday before running to Nelo village where they also shot dead a chief.
The police are investigating the incident according Daniel Justin the police spokesman.
He said that the traffic between Juba and Nimule is flowing normally.
