Amama Mbabazi’s private security team has defected to President Yoweri Museveni.
The team was part of those involved in Ntungamo violence late last year.
The group led by Peter Tonny Okello and George Sebyala said in a joint press statement that they left Amama because of “selfishness”.
“Mbabazi is a selfish man who doesn’t care about people he works with.”
Ms Joshephin Mayanja Nkangi, the Go Forward spokesperson, when contacted did not comment on the matter.
However, the 68 member team accuses Mbabazi of failing to guarantee the group’s safety in case of any risks.
“We want to come out today and say we have left TDA-Go Forward-Uganda and joined President Yoweri Museveni’s camp.”
The team cited the case of Christopher Aine, Mbabazi’s chief bodyguard who disappeared but the candidate has not done anything to ensure he is found.
“We also don’t want to be part of Mbabazi’s plans of championing the violence during and after elections,” the group said, accusing Amama of plotting election violence.
The team officially apologised to NRM supporters beaten during the Ntungamo clashes saying they would cooperate with the state from now on.
Not long ago, an entire youth group, Sauti Ya Vijana, defected from Mbabazi back to Museveni.
The over 900 youths allied to Mbabazi also defected in Sembabule district accusing Amama of greed.
