6 die rushing to bury Gen Aronda

Six people are said to have perished in an accident that occurred along the Kampala-Masaka highway on Sunday.

The group was rushing to Rukungiri to bury the late Internal Affairs minister, Gen Aronda Nyakairima.

The Mpigi District Traffic Officer, Michael Duncan Ensinikweri, told Daily Monitor, the accident occurred at Kakoni village in Nkozi sub county, Mpigi district.

Ensinikweri says the accident involved a Kampala bound minivan, a Toyota Noah registration number UAL 379T whose driver lost control and veered off the road.

The vehicle then rammed into a Super Custom Reg. number UAW 563E that was heading to Rukungiri.

All occupants of the Super custom who died on spot include; Jovan, a baby, his mother, Agnes Nakalema, Alex Sseremba, Samuel Ssekitayira, Frank Bukenya and Brenda Nazziwa.

Police have attributed the accident to fatigue, reckless driving and over speeding.

The injured were taken to Nkozi Hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Gombe Hospital for post-mortem.

The vehicles were towed to Buwama Police Station.
