6 dead, 92 admitted as cholera hits Butaleja

Butaleja district officials have confirmed the death of six people due to a cholera outbreak in the area.

Butaleja District Health Officer Dr. John Matovu told New Vision that they registered the first cholera case on Easter Monday in Nabiganda trading Centre in Kachonga sub-county.

The plague has already claimed six lives while 92 others are hospitalised at Nabiganda health Centre IV.

Matovu said they first recorded 25 cases before the number galloped to 92 victims so far.

He told vision that an isolation Centre has been opened at Nabiganda Health Centre IV to handle the cholera cases.

This comes at the same time a strange disease has killed at least six people in Masaka district.

The disease has signs of Ebola and Marburg fevers.
