5th NRM MP thrown out of parliament over voter bribery

Another National Resistance Movement (NRM) Member of Parliament Lillian Nakate has been thrown out of Parliament over voter bribery.

Luweero Court on Friday declared Luweero Woman MP Seat vacant after Nakate’s victory was nullified after court found out that she bribed voters during campaigns and elections.

Court’s decision followed a petition filed by Democratic Party (DP)’s Brenda Nabukenya who lost the seat to Nakate in theFebruary 18 parliamentary elections.

According to the Electoral Commission results declared in February, Nakate a political novice and an engineer by profession garnered 56,573 votes to beat DP’s Brenda Nabukenya with 53,558 votes.

The five-woman race also included; Katangaaza who stood on an FDC ticket, Elsie Namagambe who stood as a DP candidate of the Erias Lukwago faction and Proscovia Namansa who was an independent candidate.

Nakate is the fifth NRM MP to lose her seat.

Peter Mugema of Iganga Municipality was also kicked out of parliament.

On Wednesday, the High Court in Mbale kicked out of Parliament NRM’s Vincent Woboya, who had in February been declared winner of the Budadiri East seat, citing failure to retire in accordance with the law.

Last week, the High Court in Kampala declared the Busiro South MP seat vacant after NRM’s Peter Ssematimba was found to be lacking the requisite academic qualifications.

On Tuesday, the MP for Lugazi Municipality Isaac Mulindwa Ssozi was also thrown out of Parliament also for lack minimum academic qualifications.
