Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is not happy with the budget allocated to the city in the 2016/17 budget.
In the budget read at Serena conference centre on Wednesday, Finance minister Matia Kasaija allocated Shs536 billion to KCCA.
Lukwago was later quoted saying the Shs536bn to KCCA for the FY 2016/17 is peanuts.
“There is no way Kampala will become a key hub if it is not given enough money,” Lukwago argued.
He suggested that Kampala be treated as a special docket.
“Less than half of Kampala’s roads are tarmacked.”
After swearing in this week, Luwkago said Kampala transformation is unsustainable, unfeasible if its based on overtaxing of the poor and small businesses.
Lukwago says its unsustainable to transform Kampala using only collected dues and thus requested for at least 1% from national budget.
