At least 561 drivers have been arrested and are being held by police for traffic violations.
The suspects have been arrested since the launch of operation Fika Salama a week ago.
Police says the suspect’s will arraigned in court and charged with traffic related offences.
According to Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), there have been reduced cases of accidents in the country, especially Kampala- Masaka high which has of recent been deadly with registering the highest numbe of accidents in the country in less that four months.
UNRA’s head of enforcement John Bosco Ssejemba said over 80 percent of the accidents in Uganda are caused by driver behaviour.
“Drivers may have dreams but we advise that speeding to their graves shouldn’t be one of them. We now have cameras at strategic locations. Fika Salama will catch you. We also have mobile cameras in use along the road. You will never know when your picture is taken.Drive safe,” he said.
