The ruling party Electoral Commission has unearthed 55 fake documents presented by its aspirants.
A list pinned at the NRM Electoral Commission offices on Kyadondo Road chronicles those who presented fake academic documents, those who refused to retire from government jobs and those who resigned too late.
Among the big names pinned on the list is State Minister for Gender and Cultural Affairs, Ms Rukia Nakadama, Luweero LC5 chairman Abdul Nadduli, Lwengo NRM chairperson Muyanja Mbabali, and Kibuku MP Saleh Kamba.
Last month, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, said he had received at least 26 petitions against aspirants seeking to contest in the upcoming party primaries and 2016 elections.
22 of the petitions had issues of fake academic papers while the other four were about public servants who picked nominations before resigning their offices.
Dr. Odoi said genuine petitions will be handled at the party level by either stopping the accused aspiring candidates from continuing with campaigns or allowing them to continue.
He said those found with forged papers will be handed over to the police.
Mid-July this year, National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) cleared Sembabule district woman MP, Anifa Kawooya, to pick nomination forms to run in the NRM primaries.
Kawooya had issues with her academic transcripts after it was alleged that Kawooya’s admission and subsequent award of a degree by Nkumba University was founded on at least two invalid academic certificates.
Speaking to Daily Monitor, the NRM party electoral commission deputy chairperson, John Arimpa Kigyagi, said the NRM legal team would handle the matter of fake papers.
“Some proactive people have raised queries and we thought it was fair for the aspirants to know whether it is malicious or not,” Kigyagi noted.
He said the party has informed the aspirants that they have queries.
“Our legal team has not completed doing due diligence, they will handle,” Kigyagi added.
